Unannounced Engagement

Someone helped me zip my white lacey baju kurung. My make-up was done. My veil and scarf in place. Everything was in order. I had only one thing left to do: to go down and meet my future in-laws.

I was getting engaged to someone I didn't know.
Worry not, I was still excited!

I climbed down the stairs. Made an entrance. Wow-ed everyone. Did all the necessary and voila, an engagement ring on my right hand! I have to say, it was one of the best moments of my life DESPITE the fact that my fiance was a no-show. That didn't bother me a bit.

Although I had no idea who I was getting married to, but I knew who he was. As in, I knew how he looked like. But I didn't know him.

A few days after that, I attended a wedding reception at what looked to me like Dewan Komuniti Bukit Damansara. There were a lot of my friends there. Don't ask me whose wedding it was coz I don't remember.

I bumped into some of my friends and we started talking. They all knew I had just recently gotten engaged so they asked who my fiance was. Surprisingly, he was there as well. Apparently we had a lot of common friends. And the wedding was our common friend's wedding.

Instead of describing him to them, I decided to show them the person I was betrothed to LIVE. (That was a big mistake. I wish I hadn't done that.)

My fiance's table was occupied with gents. From my distance, they appeared to be in a serious sort of conversation. Nonetheless, as I was leading the ladies to my fiance's table and just when I sat next to him, these were his words: "My fiancee? I'm not too sure about her."

He turned around and boy was he surprised to see me - his fiancee! All I managed to say was, "ok". I stood up and ran for the restroom.

He didn't even run after me. I was crying and crying with all the other ladies. I was so sad that he didn't even run after me. I was ashamed that he had said that in front of everyone. How humiliating that was for me!

I thought it a bit unfair because I didn't know I was getting married to him anyway. But I got over it. Why couldn't he?

As all the ladies huddled around me on the floor, we heard the door to the restroom open and a bunch of guys barged in. An entourage, actually. They seemed to be looking for someone. I was too distraught to bother about their presence.

They stopped when they saw me. They all gave a red rose each to me. And the last person to give me a bouquet was my fiance. I ended up crying even more.

He motioned everyone to leave for him to speak to me in private. He started by explaining what he meant by his last sentence. He told me he hadn't even finish his sentence and I was too quick to pass judgment on him. He told me what he meant to say was: "My fiance? I'm too sure about her liking me".

I didn't want to listen to him and wanted to call off the wedding. He was convincing me whilst grabbing on to my arms. I tried so hard to brush him but I was weak from all the crying and I ended up crying even more.

He told me that he was glad that it had been me, if only I knew how happy he was to know it was me his parents decided to set him up with. And then he kissed me. Gently at first and then it grew rough, firmer. He put me down gently on the floor and we continued to kiss as if there were no tomorrow.
